It’s that time of year. When all your friends and family are taking vacations. It begins as soon as school ends for the summer. First, Facebook is full of graduation pictures from Preschool to College. Then before you know it, everyone is talking about going on vacation! Where they’re going, who they will see, where they eat, what they eat, the beach, the sun, the fun.
Well, now it’s MY turn!
We are leaving tomorrow to go visit 1) A daughter and her family and then 2) Good friends who are about to be stationed in Germany for maybe three years. We’re going from the Midwest to the East Coast. It’s going to be a beautiful, fun and busy trip and we’re so looking forward to it.
Now, my boss has a little tradition that he has to do before he goes on vacation. He has to have a little in-office celebration (rubbing it in?) by playing the following song and having a little dance (remember it from National Lampoon’s Vacation?):
Me? I’m more of a Go-Go’s kinda girl:
Either way, I’m outta here. Glad to be off work, traveling with my hubby and seeing family and dear friends! And yes, if you are “friends” with me on my personal Facebook, there will be pictures of it all! 😀

What a great weekend we had. Perfect spring weather in the Midwest, USA. We (and by “we” I mean my husband) have been constructing a rather large raised garden for the last few weeks. This past weekend we got it almost finished. It’s amazing. I’m so proud of my husband. I showed him some pictures and ideas I found on Pinterest, he then made a couple of simple plan drawings and was unstoppable. He’s made plenty of trips to Home Depot, but has never once had to stop and go over those drawings again. I’d have to have a step-by-step plan to accomplish this! (Photos below)
We’ll be planting a large variety of veggies. Then we will enlist the help of our children and grandchildren to maintain and harvest. This is going to be a family project throughout the summer and fall. Our children and grandchildren will benefit from the work and produce. Can’t get any better than that! The kids have already had a great time helping grandpa with construction.
YOUR TURN: Who else is gardening this year? Do you have a raised garden, in ground, or in pots? No matter what the size of your garden, please tell us about it. Share your pictures on my Facebook page!
Grandkids on groundbreaking day. They really did help. Carried lumber and moved dirt to fill other dog-made holes (their idea!) Plenty of dirt digging and worm finding that day.
Herbs! I’ve planted a big pot of basil (my fave), Cilantro, Parsley, Rosemary and chives is a perennial. I’ll be adding to the chives this year and also planting thyme. The pots will be placed in various locations around the yard. (This was planting day, they look must better now)
Hubby found this buried in the yard the day he was tilling! On the bottom it says “Mentholatum Reg. Trade Mark”. An exciting little treasure!
Grandgirls chillin’. They walking around inside, on top of, and climbed over this structure all weekend! I told the oldest she looked like Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) walking around the pigpen.
End of the weekend’s work. How amazing is this?! Green fence along the back for vining veggies.
Almost done. I planted sunflower seeds alone the edge too. Even excited about those. Another exciting addition to the yard this year will be privacy fencing! No more hoarder’s yard in view! heehee 🙂
